Veterinary Surgeons

Personnel: At Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital we have four full-time and two part-time veterinary surgeons. Between them, they have a wealth of experience which translates into the fact there is very little we haven’t seen. Each veterinary surgeon has his/her own special interests. Everyone is encouraged to further progress themselves with continuing education and we expect each surgeon to return with ideas and the latest techniques to help improve the clinical care of our patients. In addition we have three other specialist consultant veterinary surgeons who attend in Gilabbey on certain days every week (Oncology, Ultrasound and Internal Medicine).

Veterinary Nurses

Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital has eight fully qualified veterinary nurses who are highly skilled and dedicated to the care and treatment of our small animal patients. On our team, we are proud to have the first veterinary nurse in Ireland, to gain a diploma in higher education in clinical veterinary nursing, followed on with an advanced diploma in veterinary surgical nursing. Another member of our nursing staff has become actively involved in veterinary physiotherapy and has developed our Cork Canine Rehabilitation Centre including hydrotherapy, while another promotes CPD for veterinary nurses and veterinary surgeons through vetcpd.ie. We actively encourage all of our nurses to pursue continuing education and from this, we expect them to bring new techniques and ideas back to the practice.

Reception and Office Staff

Our Reception Team is made up of both full and part time staff:
Niamh, Valerie, Kathleen, Louise, Claire and Jen have vast experience in customer service.  At reception they deal with many of your enquiries both face to face and over the phone. They are responsible for co-ordinating the appointments, surgery bookings and patient admissions and making sure that your visit is smooth and trouble free. They are also delighted to deal with any enquiries you may have regarding the best care of your pet. They also, together with our nursing team, deal with admissions to and management of our cattery. Our team will also advise you in regard to pet insurance choices and in processing any claims you may have for your pet.
