About Us
Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital was founded by Mr Liam Guerin in 1957 in Gilabbey Street. We moved to our current location in Vicars Road, Togher.
We are a highly experienced and caring team of vets and nurses, who strive to give every animal the same care we would like our own animals to receive. We aim to give the best of care to your animal from the very start all the way through their life. We love seeing your animals grow and progress. Many of our vets have been with us for years and so you can be sure you will see the same familiar faces each time you visit us.
We are committed to ongoing training and our vets and nurses regularly attend courses to enhance their skills and some of them even lecture at veterinary conferences. Many of our vets have further qualifications and we have a number of specialists working here. We love to learn, and can offer advanced procedures such as keyhole surgery for spaying dogs.
Our Team
Veterinary Surgeons
At Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital we have six full-time veterinary surgeons and three visiting specialists who attend in Gilabbey on certain days every week (Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging and Internal Medicine). Between them, they have combined experience of over 100 years which translates into the fact there is very little they haven’t seen. Each veterinary surgeon has his/her own area of expertise. All of our vets regularly undertake further education to ensure we have the latest information and techniques to ensure your pet gets the best possible care.
Veterinary Nurses
Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital has eight fully qualified veterinary nurses who are highly skilled and dedicated to the care and treatment of our small animal patients. On our team, we are proud to have the first veterinary nurse in Ireland to gain a diploma in clinical veterinary nursing, followed on with an advanced diploma in veterinary surgical nursing. Another member of our nursing staff has become actively involved in veterinary physiotherapy and has developed our Cork Canine Rehabilitation Centre including hydrotherapy, while many of them run CPD (continuing professional development) for veterinary nurses and veterinary surgeons.
Reception and Office Staff
Our Reception Team is made up of both full and part time staff:

They are responsible for co-ordinating the appointments, surgery bookings and patient admissions and making sure that your visit is smooth and trouble free. They are also delighted to deal with any enquiries you may have regarding the best care of your pet. They also, together with our nursing team, deal with admissions to and management of our cat hotel.
